“Touching the Really Real... Dispelling Illusions.”
SO, what are you doing tonight? May I ask you to do something very difficult? Get out of your Sunday easy chair and come to our Parish Mission. Coming to the Mission is not the hard part, getting out of the easy chair is. Once we are settled in, we’re settled.
But the whole purpose of this Holy season of Lent is to move us into a new direction, into the heart of God. This evening I will begin a three day mission for the people of our parish. The theme is “Unmasking our Illusions so We May Touch the Really Real.” It is a mission that I have given not only throughout the diocese, but also in many parishes throughout the states. I can make you a promise about this parish mission. You will not walk out of the mission, the same way you walked in. This is not because I get a lot of mileage on my mouth, but because there is no way that you can put yourself in the presence of God’s Holy Spirit without Him touching and transforming you. That’s a promise. God can not lay a finger on us or even get near to us unless we give Him permission, unless we get out of that easy chair.
On Day 1, we will be pulling out the big guns and revealing the secret of happiness. Do you want to be happy? Silly question. We will do this in the context of an old fashion exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction.
On Day 2, we will gather for our annual Lenten Reconciliation service within the context of the Mission. We will all have an opportunity to receive Sacramental Reconciliation and Absolution.
On Day 3, we will pray Holy Mass as we celebrate as well our truest identity in God. The Mission is a spiritual discipline. This is the time to do it.
